Works at Millbank gallery to begin in September

The Tate Britain has put out a call for a £1.2m construction job at its gallery.

The world-renowned museum is looking for contractors to carry out hard strip and asbestos removals at its historic site at Millbank on the river.

Bids are to be assessed on the basis of both quality and cost with a 60:40 weighting given to quality and it is thought that between five and six contractors could be given work on the job.

The gallery is expecting tenders by 27 June and the contract will start on 1 September 2011.

Final works are to be completed by 1 January 2013.
