Contractor Mace wins race to complete transport link in time for the Games

The Thames cable car will open in time for the London Olympics after transport chiefs revealed 28 June as the launch date for the transport link.

Design and build contractor Mace had been involved in a race against time to build and test the cable car in time for it to launch before the Games begin on 27 July.

But transport chiefs have now confirmed the transport link will open to the public a full month before the Olympics.

The Emirates Air Line will link the O2 Arena in Greenwich with the Excel exhibition centre and carry 2,5000 people an hour

London Mayor Boris Johnson told the BBC: “On 28 June this spectacular new addition to London’s skyline will provide a much needed new river crossing in the east of our great city.”
