Gatwick confirms Vinci is the winning bidder for the job to build a new baggage facility and a replacement for Pier 1

Vinci has been confirmed as the winner of the £184m job to build a new baggage facility and a replacement for Pier 1 at Gatwick airport.

As Building exclusively revealed in September, Vinci had edged ahead of rivals Balfour Beatty and Mace in the race for the £184m contract, which is part of the airport’s £1.2bn capital investment programme.

The job involves the construction of a new baggage facility at Gatwick South Terminal, as well as new aircraft stands and pier facilities to replace the existing Pier 1, the building that connects the terminal to aircraft, which is the oldest pier at the airport.

Jason Griffiths, regional director at Vinci Construction UK’s Air Division said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver this prestigious project for Gatwick Airport.

“Our extensive expertise in air infrastructure will ensure we can work closely with Gatwick Airport to complete the complex works within a live operational environment and to the highest standards of safety and quality.”
