I found your article “Manslaughter rules could ‘signal end’ for small firms” (30 October, page 11) fascinating

We read about Baby P or somebody who has been kicked to death after confronting some anti-social undesirable and the air is filled with demands that the guilty men be flogged and strung up at Tyburn.

Why should it be different if you are an SME or large corporate? The fact remains: a life has been taken. How are we going to get employers to take health and safety seriously if every time we get near a realistic solution we back away in case we are lambasted by the likes of Jeremy Clarkson?

Have you ever had to go and knock on a relative’s door to inform them their nearest and dearest is not coming home because of a negligent act? I assure you this exercise helps to focus the mind.
