I would like to second Peter Jones' vote of confidence (9 May, page 34) in Peter Fall's efforts to promote and develop the image of the RICS and its members.
I have recently had to deal with many RICS departments in my efforts to revive the activities of the RICS branch in the United Arab Emirates. My experience shows me that every section of the RICS is making an enormous effort to elevate the status of the chartered surveyor to new levels worldwide.

The huge developments taking place in this part of the world, particularly in Dubai, have resulted in a rapid increase in member numbers. Moreover, RICS participation in and sponsorship of local and international events, such as the Sixth Sharjah Urban Planning Symposium, has enhanced the RICS profile and this, coupled with the improved communications that we enjoy today, is opening up exciting opportunities for us all.

Fifty of the 270 members in the UAE recently voted unanimously to actively pursue the objectives that the new RICS has identified to further promote the institute and its members.

True, the RICS has not always been so proactive, but now that it is making strides to reinvent itself and in the show the world the special qualities of RICS members, let us all get behind it and make it the global success it deserves to be.
