I wish to challenge Multiplex's claim (reported on 25 July, page 13) that it has completed the longest ever continuous concrete pour at Wembley Stadium, at 19.5 hours.
This does not beat the pour on the Centre Hotel Project in central Newcastle upon Tyne in 1974, when a reinforced concrete raft slab 2 m deep was poured to bridge over the piled tunnels for the Tyneside Metro system, taking 23 hours. The volume of concrete was similar to that poured at Wembley Stadium, at 4800 m3.

Our pour was a record for the longest continuous pour until it was beaten shortly afterwards by the pour for the foundations of the Post Office Tower in London.

I hope you will inform Multiplex of the above.
