Regretfully I wholeheartedly agree with the statement that Part L is not being enforced. Moreover, it is generally not understood and often ignored

As a roofing and cladding consultancy, our opinion is that Part L 2006 is now so complex that most roofing and cladding contractors do not understand it – some are even oblivious to the requirements.

The contractors are not being asked to substantiate their works and very few installations are being inspected.

When I raise questions concerning a building, I am often told that the SBEM calculation has been completed and that the approved inspector has signed the project off. Frequently, the building I have inspected bares no relation to that shown in the SBEM calculation.
