I read the spat in your letters pages between Roger Knowles and Sarah Bourne on women in construction.

As a headhunter in the industry and a member of the National Association of Women in Construction, I feel I must say something.

They both have a point, but the image of women in construction has been spoilt by a minority of women who always want to change things rather than integrate into them. Being petty about a girlie calendar is a bit precious, to say the least. Regardless of what some women think, the construction industry is a man’s world and long may it stay that way – women should enjoy that element of it. It has never really been closed to women. What they should do is accept it for the way it is and just get on with it.

Working on site is a great way of life and you can always get false nails, but you cannot get back the chance for a good career.
