A reader suggest how to kick-start the sector’s economic recovery

Mark Prisk

Mark Prisk (June 22, page 30) displays the typical arrogance of this Conservative-led administration and the New Labour government before it. PFI, as problematic as it could be to the tax payer and local authorities, was an essential crutch to the construction industry and it led to some of the biggest public sector projects in years being built.

My feeling is though, with this government and its ideologically-motivated austerity measures, that big public sector projects are off the menu. What would be useful to local SME businesses (and is needed now more than ever) would be a scheme to incentivise a drive in social housing construction.
