Regarding the funding rule change to boost the academies programme (7 September, www.building.co.uk), the relaxation of the requirement that sponsors donate £2m will help increase the range of organisations able to become principal sponsors

This move will enable the best organisations to come forward, and the most suitable sponsor to be chosen. The downside is that a lead sponsor may be more likely to walk away if there are difficulties, as there has been no substantial commitment.
