I read with great, but amused, interest your article on the stream of self-employment now beginning in the construction industry (8 October, page 114).

My advice to all young professionals is to emigrate – flee this overlegislated workplace for a more favourable climate of enterprise such as Canada, America or New Zealand – even China. It’s too late for me – I was a devotee of Margeret Thatcher, the woman who waved the self-employment banner and provided super tax breaks for us. Now I have been conned in older age, and am unable to escape the wrath of the Inland Revenue.
