I know that you will have received countless observations on who was left out of the Building Hall of Fame, but I have to express my disappointment, having joined Wimpey as a trainee QS in 1963, about the omission of Sir Godfrey Mitchell, when Sir John Laing and Lord Taylor were included.

In the 1960s it was believed that Wimpey was the largest contractor in the world. And the mastermind behind this was Sir Godfrey. These days, UK contractors come nowhere near this. Perhaps the panel are not old enough to remember the 1960s or in the classic saying, they were there, but don’t remember it.
