Facilities management and m&e specialist the Emcor Group has acquired the mechanical and electrical contracting business of UK firm Rosser & Russell Building Services from French conglomerate Vinci.

Emcor Group (UK) has acquired Rosser & Russell Building Services from Vinci, the French concessions, construction and associated services company for an undisclosed fee. The deal is driven by Emcor’s strategy to grow and enhance its engineering construction business throughout the UK.

John Matthews, managing director of Emcor’s engineering business, said: “Rosser & Russell has a high quality, loyal and long serving workforce which matches well with our high standards and makes the acquisition a very good cultural and strategic fit. The added strength of the company’s staff and directly employed craftsmen will improve our resource levels and capabilities, and will particularly enable us to continue to expand our operations and develop the business further.” Rosser & Russell’s turnover for 2006 was £27 million: this fell from £43 million in 2005.

Vinci has reatined the maintenance interests of Rosser and Russell and the company name has been changed to Rosser & Russell Maintenance. The responsibility for two contracts currently being worked on by Rosser & Russell Building Services has been transferred to Vinci; these are the Whittington Hospital PFI sheme and a £4.5 million m&e contract for a five storey office building in London’s Tottenham Court Road. Vinci will also settle all outstanding final accounts on completed contracts.

Anthony Whale, chief executive of Emcor UK, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Rosser & Russell to the Emcor Group. It will enjoy all of the benefits of being part of a global organisation with over $5 billion in revenues and the financial strength, breadth and scale of resources to enhance our ability to compete for major projects such as the 2012 Olympics.

“Our investment in this acquisition underpins our strategic plan and highlights the commitment for future development of our business from our parent, Emcor Group Inc,” he said.
