Facade ventilation system
Air movement provider Gilberts Blackpool has supplied a facade ventilation solution for corporate facilities at the former Olympic Stadium, now home to West Ham United FC. Working with English Architectural Glazing, the firm used a combination of standard and bespoke louvre designs to accommodate and mirror the form and lines of the stadium. This made it possible to mask the plant while ensuring airflow with weather and noise attenuation. The company says the WGK75 delivers 50% free ventilation area while giving a balanced appearance regardless of louvre panel size, as well as noise emission control up to 11dB transmission loss.

Ventilation manufacturer EnviroVent has launched the myenvirovent app for use with their Energisava 250 and 380 MVHR systems. The app is available for download on iOS and Android and will offer greater control for home ventilation. It will allow the end user to access certain settings on the unit from anywhere in the home. Through the app users can also access user guides and technical documents, and can provide feedback and future product requests to the EnviroVent R&D centre. Other benefits include notifications when filter changes are due and user access to EnviroVent’s technical support team.
RCM Products, supplier of grilles, louvres and diffusers for air-conditioning and heating, has relocated to a new office in Kempston, Bedfordshire. The new facility has enabled the company to increase and develop its manufacturing capacity and has provided the scope to purchase and install an automated welding machine and sheet metal folder. The company has also been able to install a new computer system which it says has significantly improved its overall efficiency.
Lighting control manufacturer Hamilton Litestat reports the recent completion of the expansion of its facilities in Bristol. As a result of business growth, Hamilton was able to expand its Bristol site, centralising all operations to improve efficiency. The expansion incorporates a new customer contact centre and an engineering centre of excellence to house all of Hamilton’s engineering, design and manufacturing services. The site also offers space for meetings and training sessions open to customers and industry organisations to use for free. Visitors to the facility can even participate in a behind-the-scenes tour.

Dormakaba has provided the University of the West of England, Bristol, with high-security mechanical locking systems for its new, £55m Faculty of Business and Law building. Located on the Frenchay Campus, the building comprises two showcase law courts, a trading room, a 300-seat lecture theatre, two Harvard-layout lecture theatres and technology-enhanced active learning classrooms. The Kaba 20 and Quattro Plus master key systems specified allow selected keys to open a number of predefined doors and are compatible with a variety of locks.

Quiet, wall-mounted air-conditioning
The MSZ-LN wall-mounted air-conditioning unit by Mitsubishi Electric has been awarded the Noise Abatement Society’s Quiet Mark. MSZ-LN is the first in the company’s range of units using the new R32 refrigerant, which has a low global warming potential. The company says the unit’s design reflects its advanced range of features. The MSZ-LN range offers noise levels as low as 19dBA and is available in a choice of four sizes from 2.5kW to 6.1kW. The unit includes a built-in wi-fi interface that enables full control and monitoring via the company’s MELCloud App, while a sensor in the unit automatically monitors room occupancy. Available colours include Ruby Red, Onyx Black, Pearl White and Natural White.

Gas-fired condensing boiler
Bosch Commercial and Industrial has recently rebranded its SB745 gas-fired condensing boiler, which will now be known as the Uni 8000F. The product was originally introduced under the Buderus brand. The update will see it carry full Bosch branding, including the company’s recognisable grey and red design. The compact boiler provides outputs of 800kW, 1,000kW and 1,200kW, and incorporates a water routing system and burnout combustion chamber to achieve seasonal efficiency. No minimum flow rate is required, meaning installers do not require additional devices during installation. The unit is fitted with a flue gas silencer to minimise noise emissions and a thermal insulation casing to increase efficiency.

Five Imax Xtra EL 1240 KW boilers from Ideal Commercial were installed at Wren Kitchens’ manufacturing facility in Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire. Ideal Commercial said the Imax Xtra EL was specified due to its compact size and lightweight package for ease of installation. The system is suitable for fully pumped, open-vented or pressurised systems.

Balanced-brightness office lighting
Zumtobel has designed the new Vaero LED pendant luminaire for modern office environments. The pendant’s minimalist design means it can be integrated into any office area, from classic working environments to creative communication zones. Vaero’s design includes a slim, transparent light-emitting surface, eliminating the need for a converter box. The luminaire body has been designed without a frame, and the centre bar is available in untreated aluminum, black or bronze. Individual LED points of light are dispersed throughout the design, creating a balanced brightness distribution. The company says this design is intended to improve visual comfort.

All-in-one emergency lighting
Tridonic has developed an all-in-one solution for emergency lighting. The newly launched EM Ready2apply recessed downlight includes all components for emergency lighting in one single box: light source, driver, battery and optic. In response to market demand, and the need to reduce on-site disruption, the manufacturer wanted to design a compact and easy-to-install product that could be inserted into the ceiling void through a minimal cut-out. The result was a stand-alone emergency luminaire. To keep maintenance costs low the system uses a lithium-iron phosphate battery, which has a service life of eight years. Three interchangeable optics for anti-panic, escape-route and spot lighting are also available.

Security solutions manufacturer Videx has provided a digital entry system for a student accommodation development in Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. Alongside installation partner SMT Electrical, Videx installed its VX2200 digital door-entry system to ensure the safety of students while allowing easy and convenient access. The company says it was selected for its high level of continued customer support. The scheme, providing 123 student flats in Clavering Place, was designed by Newcastle upon Tyne-based Intersect Architects.
