The Security Institute has appointed Di Thomas as its inaugural general manager to run the organisation’s offices and co-ordinate the many new initiatives on which the Institute’s members are working. Di spent several years with Thales (formerly Racal) working in administration, ‘soft services’ facilities management and site security controller roles before joining Faceo FM (UK) in 2001. At Faceo, Di managed the National Call Centre and, of late, has been responsible for client communications.

Mark Gilbert has been appointed to the new Board position of national accounts director at Reliance Security Services. Mark has enjoyed a successful career with BT during the past seven years, working across senior sales management, product and channel development roles in both the retail and wholesale divisions. Mark was formerly employed in international sales roles at the Radius Group and Data General.

The BT redcare Group has announced the appointment of its new chief executive. Chet Patel moves from his former role as general manager of the Wireless Access Group in products, BT Mobility and strategy. Chet has managed BT’s PSTN voice portfolio, and also launched its Broadband offering. He joined BT in 1994 from City stockbrokers Charles Schwab, and now boasts 12 years’ telecoms experience.

Quest – one of the UK’s leading corporate security and professional intelligence firms – has appointed the former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Lord Stevens, as its non-executive chairman. A servant of the police service for 42 years, Lord Stevens (pictured) is conducting the enquiry into Princess Diana’s death. Richard Andrews OBE is Quest’s new chief executive, having recently retired from the Army.

Following the company’s recent sales and service restructuring operation, Philip Longley has been appointed managing director at CCTV solutions specialist Synectics. Previously the company’s sales director, Longley is one of the founding partners (having been with the business for over 18 years). In his new role, Longley will be responsible for the company’s global markets, including Europe, South Africa and the Middle East. He has already spearheaded the creation of a new service and support centre.

Droitwich-based security training concern Train 4 Security has formed a new Board of Advisors. Headed by the company’s chief executive, Phil Ruggiero, the Board comprises Bill Croft (an ex-Home Office chief inspector and the former head of crime prevention for West Midlands Police), Geoff Whitfield (pictured) – the former director of worldwide security at GlaxoSmithKline – Richard Brighton (a chartered accountant with over 30 years’ experience in both the profession and commerce and industry in the UK, Europe and the Middle East) and Dave Williams, an IT specialist.

c2c Recruitment, a specialist in the security recruitment field, has appointed Nigel Betteridge as business development consultant. Nigel has worked in the recruitment sector for a number of years, most recently within business development at Capita. Nigel’s role at c2c entails further developing client contact and feedback across the organisation’s corporate security and facilities management arenas.

Adam Bradley has taken up a senior sales position at SecureSeal, the manufacturer of trailer security seals and RFID-based transport management systems. Bradley previously worked for overnight carrier ANC Express, where he spent three years in corporate sales.

Quadrant Video Systems has announced the appointment of Richard King as design engineer. With salient industry experience gained at Bradley Lomas Electrolok and Tunstall Telecom, Richard’s new role will encompass the design of Quadrant installations including process control, remote CCTV monitoring, digital recording, Control Room design and rapid deployment cameras.

SecurityVacancies.com – the specialist recruitment web site targeting the fire and security sectors – has appointed Polly Sims as its marketing and administration manager. Polly, who boasts in-depth marketing experience having worked in both the IT and education sectors, will be responsible for the site’s continued growth in 2006.

Outdoor perimeter intrusion detection concern Senstar-Stellar has made a couple of changes to its UK team. Stephen Phillips joins as area manager for South West England, Southern Wales and the West Midlands from Siemens Building Technologies’ Fire and Security Products Division (where he also served as an area sales manager). Prior to that appointment, Stephen was a sales executive at Gardiner Security. Malcolm Bullivant – already an area sales manager with the company – is now in charge of the South East, East Midlands and East Anglian regions.

Charles Nichols has joined Vigilant Technology as sales executive covering the south of England. Charles – who was previously with Sirrus – will be responsible for promoting Vigilant’s Extreme, Elite and Enterprise digital video recording systems throughout southern England, in the meantime providing sales support to the company’s growing network of installers.

TSSI Systems – the document and personal identity solutions developer – has announced the appointment of Lord Young of Graffham (pictured) and Mark Gostick as non-executive directors of the company. Now working alongside TSSI’s executive chairman Danny Chapchal, this move reunites three of the original management team that built Cambridge Display Technology. Lord Young was previously executive chairman of Cable & Wireless.

AMA Associates has made a significant change within its management team. The company – a deliverer of security and risk management services and specialist training to large numbers of Government employees and local authority staff, as well as Department for Transport maritime and aviation courses – has appointed a new managing director in the shape of Juliette Jones. Juliette joins from a senior human resources and training management role with Manchester City Council.
