450 homes to be built at old ground, retail units and hotel planned for new site
QS and project management firm Complete Construction Management is working on an ambitious relocation of a leading Welsh rugby club.
The firm is acting as project coordinator for a new home for the Llanelli Scarlets rugby club, which is working in joint partnership with Carmarthenshire County Council on the project. The project entails construction of up to 450 houses on the club's current Stradey ground. Money from the sale of the ground will be ploughed into the new Llanelli stadium, which will include retail units, a Travelodge hotel and additional sporting facilities.
CCM began working on the project last autumn. It involves coordinating the teams working on the separate schemes, according to CCM managing director Steve Paxton. "We are working closely with the council helping to pull both sides together and create a cohesive team. A genuine joint venture in the truest sense."
Costain was last month confirmed as contractor on the new £45m stadium and infrastructure works, which will be housed in the Pemberton district of Llanelli. The firm is working with a team including architect the Miller Partnership and engineers URS, who both worked on the new £27m Swansea rugby stadium that was completed last summer.
Costain is working under the new two-stage NEC3 contract. Paxton said: "The contract is excellent and supports the ethos of partnering suggested by Latham with both parties sharing the pain and gain process. Because of the involvement of the contractor at such an early stage a real sense of ownership and team spirit is created."

On the current Scarlets site CCM is working with agent Alder King on the disposal strategy. The firm recently held a public open day with other project team members working on the housing plans to discuss the proposed project with local residents.
CCM was formed in 2003 from the merger of - Cartwrights and Nurden Paxton Tilley. The firm now employs over 25 members of staff, 15 of whom are qualified surveyors. It has offices in Cheltenham, Bristol, Evesham and Birmingham.
As well as their traditional services of quantity surveying, cost management, building surveying and planning supervision they specialise in providing project management, strategic planning and contract administration services, and work in all sectors of the industry.
