The HSE has announced a new timetable for the implementation of the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations. Now due to be launched in Spring 2007, the implementation has been postponed from October 2006 in response to a three-month consultation exercise carried out by the HSC.
Stephen Williams, the HSE's chief inspector of construction, said: "The HSE and its partners believe we are well on the way to producing a set of replacement regulations...but we would be selling ourselves short if we rushed our proposals through. We need more time to make sure we get the changes right and industry also needs to have adequate time to familiarise itself with the finalised CDM package."
The CDM Regulations will revise and bring together provisions in the existing CDM Regulations 1994 and the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996.
