I am a 36-year-old building surveyor and a probationer member of the RICS.
I do not recall much mention of building surveyors in the letters concerning the RICS row. To me, the RICS has never seemed to be concerned with construction matters – property, yes, but construction, not really. So I have often wondered what the point is of joining the RICS – and I ought to find a reason before my interview, as it is the only professional membership open to me.

Although I still intend to complete the APC and look forward to the kudos of having MRICS after my name, I cannot help thinking that in an ideal world I would be looking to attain membership of an organisation called the Chartered Institute of Construction Professions, and opting for the building division.
