Forward has glass taped

Forward Thompson has developed an automated glass taping system. The system is designed to work with standard insulating glass manufacturing lines. The system transports by way of edge conveyors the glass panels which after assembly would require pressure sensitive self adhesive tape to be applied along all its four edges to protect from damage and to protect personel from handling injuries.

A robotic application unit which applies the tape, the system can handle panel sizes from 200mm square to 2m x 3m square. The system is self seeking and therefore can handle random sized panels.

The current cell handles product sizes ranging from 200mm x 250mm up to 2000mm x 3000mm. The cell automatically calculates the size and thickness of each unit as it enters the Taping area, so enabling each edge to be accurately taped. The system can be supplied in a range of layouts including both on-line and off-line and to suit customer product dimensions and factory floor space.
