All respondents recognised that IP surveillance solutions offered a real opportunity for their company. The key benefit for 53 per cent was the ability to do cost-effective remote monitoring via the existing computer network. But many were concerned about the lack of education benefits of IP solutions among the end user community – 42 per cent saw this lack of education as the main barrier to progress in the market.
UK managing director Dominic Bruning warned: "It is the duty of all those in the surveillance market to look to the next generation of IP-based surveillance technology, educate themselves about the benefits of it and then seek to educate the market.
"If existing CCTV specialist installers do not expand the market for this technology faster, IT resellers may steal a march on them. Their aggressive approach to entering new markets and their sound knowledge of networking and information security technologies puts IT resellers in a strong position."
Meanwhile, Axis has launched its UK Channel Partner Programme to IT networking resellers and CCTV installers. The global programme is aimed at resellers and installers who are interested in taking advantage of the converging IP surveillance market and the opportunities it brings.
Existing relationships with networking distribution partners Azlan, Micro Peripherals and security distribution partners Norbain and Gardiner will ensure that new and existing partners will receive all the support they need. Channel partners will have access to a structured training programme, preferred partner status, sales and marketing material and pre-sales support.
The Channel Partner Programme features three different levels: Axis Authorised partner for those becoming familiar with the Axis product range; Axis Premium Partner for those who have been working successfully with Axis for some time; and Axis Solution Partner for those resellers who specialise in developing and selling complete surveillance solutions to end users.
