China is making a huge investment in solar power. Proposals put to the state council have earmarked billions of pounds’ worth of incentives for solar farms and rooftop panels, paid for from the country’s £400bn economic stimulus fund

The government has pledged to generate 6% of its energy from renewables by 2020, compared with the current 1.5%. China is the world’s leading manufacturer of photovoltaic panels, 95% of which are exported.
