High external air temperatures and sandstorms presented BDP with a challenge in designing the services for 10 university campuses across Libya

The team has used building mass to mitigate the impact of strong sun, and incorporated passive facade performance and solar hot water and space heating. BDP is also using centralised chiller plants operating at night along with a thermal store to reduce chiller electricity consumption by 65%. Intake air will be cooled by passing it through a subterranean labyrinth. The projects will recycle grey water and harvest rainwater.
