A car manufacturer is set to save over £150 000 energy per year thanks to a building integrated system solution.
A West Midlands-based car manufacturer has driven down its energy costs by over £150 000. The savings were achieved by the installation of a Schneider Electric Transparent Building Integrated System.
The plant uses a significant amount of energy, with over 400 high-consumption devices employed in the manufacturing of the cars. An advanced metering system was used to identify when and where electricity could be saved. Simply switching off unnecessary lighting and equipment provided valuable savings.
A Merlin Gerin PowerLogic system of metering devices and software was installed site-wide to monitor all plant. This was connected using the manufacturer’s corporate network so all data could be collected on its main server.
PowerLogic enabled real time monitoring of the plant being used. This allowed accurate capacity planning, individual system monitoring and individual area analysis. Reports have also been set up to monitor usage, perform trending analysis and pinpoint areas for savings.
One area identified for savings was the car park lighting. As a result of the analysis, a manual system was introduced for the lighting, reducing energy use by a third.
Schneider Electric installed the system in conjunction with its partner systems integrator Var Services.
