Week-long strike suspended as pay deal struck

Tens of thousands of Irish electricians returned to work this morning after a Labour Court recommendation that they should receive a 4.9% pay hike.

The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union suspended the week-long strike, which has disrupted work at hundreds of construction sites across the country, after an executive meeting in Dublin yesterday.

The deal will see a 2.5% pay rise in September followed a further 2.4% next January.

Employers have not yet responded.

The TEEU has warned that if employers do not accept the pay rise, it will consider reintroducing the strike.
