Watchdog announces study into preparatory work for 2012

Spending watchdog the National Audit Office has revealed it is working on a report into work so far carried out on the Olympics project.

An announcement on the NAO's website said the study, due to be published this winter, would "examine the delivery mechanisms being put in place, the governance and financing arrangements, the baseline costs and the approach to risk management". "The study would be concerned with the risks that need to be assessed and managed if the 2012 Olympics are to be a success," the statement adds.

News of the study comes a week after it emerged that an extra £1.5bn may be spent on the project, to pay for improved infrastructure at the east London site. This would mean spending on the programme would total £5bn.
