Controls are an essential part of buildings but often poorly understood, which can lead to operational problems.
It is vitally important to understand their functions and limitation, and the choices available, in order to develop appropriate control strategies.
Understanding Controls, one of two new additions to the CIBSE Knowledge Series, is designed to help the non-expert client, facilities manager or building user to better understand controls and communicate their needs and requirements to their engineers/advisors. It includes a useful series of questions and discussion points to help decide controls requirements. With concise explanations and clear diagrams, it is also a useful tool to help engineers explain their control strategies to clients and colleagues.
The fourth title in the series, Sustainable Low Energy Cooling Solutions, provides an overview of the main options available to building services engineers. The various alternatives are clearly explained and compared, with discussion of their suitability for different applications. Again, this is designed to assist clients and others to understand the options but will also be of use to experienced engineers.
Produced to tackle topical areas in an easy-to-understand format, these new titles join the two already available in the series – Reclaimed Water and Managing Your Building Services. Two further titles, Making Buildings Work and Energy Efficient Heating are due to be published next month and a number of additional new publications in this series will be available shortly. To order your copy of any of the above titles call Charmaine on: 0208 772 3618 or visit the website on www.cibse.org
