Northcroft is the QS on a project to build a sustainable new HQ for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The proposed new building will replace the existing one at Hanslope Park, Milton Keynes. It will have a gross area of 7,400m2 and is being designed by architect GMW to use low amounts of energy. The solution on the drawing board is a three-floor building split into two parallel office strands with a central atrium.

A concrete frame, with a large thermal mass, is a key component of the design and will help to limit energy use, according to GMW. The building will also harvest rainwater and use solar power heating.

Construction will finish in July 2007.
