CIBSE Young Engineers Network

This year’s outstanding contribution award is unusual in that it does not honour an individual. Instead, the judges have chosen to recognise an initiative that is the work of a group of individuals – CIBSE’s Young Engineers Network.

The YEN is a voluntary group of regional centres established to provide a forum and support network for engineers new to the profession. Each of the centres has a committee that organises social and technical events.

The network’s aims are to:

  • promote a positive and welcoming image of the industry
  • provide a knowledge exchange and a forum for new thinking and design discussion
  • ensure new engineers engage more closely with CIBSE
  • encourage more women to enter the profession
  • promote building services in schools and universities
  • establish a link with the CIBSE Council guide new engineers towards a long-term career in building services

New engineers are the future of the industry. The judges said the YEN should help to attract more people to the profession as well as support those who have already joined. “It is an outstanding initiative and a worthy winner of the outstanding contribution award,” they declared.
