PRI, the energy and advanced smart metering firm, has provided metering and data services for NIE Energy’s Switched on Schools programme

The project has seen the installation of photovoltaic solar panels and renewable energy streetlights in 40 educational establishments across rural Northern Ireland.

Installation across the 40 schools enabled PRI to claim money from the Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROC) system for the renewable energy produced.

Pupils gained an understanding about renewable energy and monitoring their solar power system online.

A website that uses actual generation data from the schools created a virtual ‘power station’.

PRI supplied the energy data services for remote collection, analysis and billing from the Spring XP and GSM top-hat meter in each school involved.

Sales and marketing manager Geoff Chapman says: “The information was, significantly, relayed to a central point for monitoring and interpretation.”
