White Young Green is expanding its facilities management business as part of a strategy to become an “all encompassing property consultancy”, the firm said.

Head of FM and associate director Steve Smith has taken the department from a one-man operation to a 14-strong team since he joined the company in May. He is currently hiring two further recruits.

The FM book of business has mushroomed from £5,000 worth of work to £800,000 in the same time. Smith is aiming to reach £1m by June 2006.

WYG is providing FM to the Ministry of Defence through a framework deal under which it is providing a wide range of services. Other clients include investment companies and local authorities, such as Sutton, Cambridgeshire, Kingston and Richmond borough and county councils.

The FM offering spans all the non-core functions of a business, including IT, maintenance, cleaning, catering, security, switchboard, porters, refurbishment and risk management.

The services are sold exclusively to existing clients. Smith said: “WYG decided to make a commitment to FM a couple of years ago because they want to become an all encompassing property agency.”

In a recent interview with QS News, WYG’s chief executive John Purvis hinted he would like to add QSing to the firm’s service offering, a move which could be achieved through buying a cost consultancy. Earlier this month WYG acquired Doy Webster, a London M&E firm, which employs QSs, for £1.8m.
