Contractor beats off competition from Lend Lease to win contract for media company’s HQ

Sir Robert McAlpine has won the £550m contract to build the headquarters for media company Bloomberg in London.

Building understands that the firm has won the race for the job after contractor Lend Lease was dropped in the final stages.

Mace and a Skanska/Tishman joint venture had both already dropped out of the race.

The 500,000ft2 building has been designed by architect Foster + Partners.

The new headquarters will occupy the Bucklersbury House site near the Bank of England in the City of London.
