Planning granted to new premises for Bournville College at St Modwen's redevelopment of MG Rover factory site

Planning approval has been granted for Broadway Malyan's design for a new £84m college, as part of the next phase of the £1bn redevelopment of the former MG Rover works at Longbridge, Warwickshire.

Regeneration specialist St Modwen and joint landowner Advantage West Midlands are behind the development, which will involve relocating the existing three campuses of Bournville College into purpose-built 250,000 sq ft premises.

Construction work on the new college will begin in the summer, subject to securing detailed approval and funding from the Learning and Skills Council.

The build programme for the six-storey development is set to create hundreds of construction and associated jobs locally, and is expected to accommodate over 10,000 students in further and higher education.

The development has been designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of Excellent, with a number of environmental design features.

Completion is aimed for the start of the new academic year in September 2011.
