Colin Gilmore-Merchant will join HOK as head of science and technology

HOK has snapped up a former director of Will Alsop’s practice to head up its science and technology division.

Colin Gilmore-Merchant, a former managing director of Alsop Design, will work on schemes including the £500m United Kingdom Centre for Medical Research & Innovation (UKCMRI) and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia.

While at Alsop, Gilmore-Merchant was responsible for the delivery of such buildings as the £44m School of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary College, University of London in 2005.

Andrew Barraclough, a director at HOK, said: “Our global science and technology group is setting international trends in the programming, planning and design of the world's most innovative science and research facilities and has a track record of delivering complex projects within demanding budgets and programmes . We are confident Colin will be a valuable addition to this team.”
