University College London issues call to tender for £45m medical research facility

University College London has begun the search for an architect for a £45m medical research facility on its central London campus.

The UK university put a tender out this morning seeking an architect for the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour at UCL.

It will shortlist between four and 10 architects for a job that is sure to attract an enormous amount of interest at a time when projects of this magnitude are few and far between.

UCL, which is home to architectural school the Bartlett, has a proud history of commissioning challenging architecture, with buildings by Sir Denys Lasdun, Feilden Clegg Bradley and Grimshaw.

Architects have until 6 May to register their interest with UCL.
