Steven Holl, John McAslan and Hopkins amongst shortlisted teams

The shortlist for the most eagerly-anticipated architecture competition so far this year has been unveiled.

Seven architect teams have been shortlisted from over 150 entries to build a £50m building at the Glasgow School of Art.

They are:

Benson + Forsyth (London, UK)

Elder & Cannon (Glasgow, UK)

Francisco Mangado Architects (Pamplona, Spain)

Grafton Architects (Dublin, Ireland)

Hopkins (London, UK)

John McAslan and Partners with Nord Architects (London and Glasgow partnership)

Steven Holl Architects with JM Architects (New York and Glasgow partnership)

The competition received 153 expressions of interest from architects around the world. According to media reports, architects including Zaha Hadid, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and David Chipperfield threw their hats into the ring. However, the final shortlist is relatively unstarry, mainly made up of architects known for their work in the higher education sector.
