Wealth of design talent shortlisted to design a swimming pool in seaside town

Two Stirling prize winners are amongst the architects shortlisted to design a swimming pool in the seaside town of Worthing.

Feilden Clegg Bradley and Wilkinson Eyre have been shortlisted alongside AHMM, Thomas Heatherwick, Pringle Richards Sharratt, and Ian Simpson Architects to build the leisure centre, which carries a price tag of between £1.5m and £2m.

That such a seemingly unassuming prize attracted two winners of architect’s most prestigious prize, not to mention designers of the calibre of Heatherwick and AHMM, illustrates the paucity of architectural work in the sector.

Over 100 architects submitted expressions of interest for the competition, which the local council said would result in a “landmark building demonstrating civic pride and status.”
