The Shard wins project of the year at Building’s prestigious annual awards, while Stephen Pycroft, executive chairman of Mace, wins personality of the year

The Shard won project of the year at Building’s prestigious annual awards last night, with the tower’s main contractor, client and project manager also all taking home gongs.

The industry’s brightest lights packed out London’s Grosvenor House Hotel last night to see the Shard tower collect the prestigious Building Magazine Project of the Year accolade.

Stephen Pycroft, executive chairman of Mace, the main contractor on the Shard, was named Building’s personality of the year, picking up the baton from 2012 winner Sir John Armitt, the former chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority.

Mace picked up the project/construction management firm of the year award, with Shard client Sellar Property Group winning the construction client gong and Turner & Townsend - the project manager on the Shard - winning large consultant of the year.

Willmott Dixon was named major contractor of the year; Allford Hall Monaghan Morris won architect of the year; Stephen Stone from Crest Nicholson won the chief executive of the year award, with Places for People winning house builder of the year.
