A further 34 people are injured as disaster hits £2bn airport construction project at Kunming

Seven people were killed and 34 injured, eight critically, when a partly built overpass collapsed yesterday in China.

The overpass is part of a £2bn project to build a new airport at Kunming, in China's south-western Yunnan province.

Local news agency Xinhua reported that part of the 38m-long, 13m-wide structure collapsed at about 2.20pm local time, fatally crushing seven workers.

The new airport is designed to be a new gateway to the region, handling 38 million passengers when up and running.
