The designers guide to energy efficient buildings for industry (GPG 303)

The Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme has published The designers guide to energy efficient buildings for industry (GPG 303).

The Guide aims to assist in the design of more energy efficient buildings through the greater integration of the building fabric and building services.

The publication is intended to ensure that energy efficiency is included at the earliest stage of the project brief and at every stage of the design process. It also contains a checklist of energy efficient options to highlight where it is cost-effective to improve energy efficiency above the minimum required by the Building Regulations.

Claimed benefits of using the Guide include quicker decision making during the design stage as a result of better understanding between clients and designers, and more effective communication of the benefits of energy efficient design solutions to the client.

The Guide contains a number of features to support the design process, including fact sheets on energy efficient solutions, details of the Climate Change Levy and Enhanced Capital Allowances, and decision trees for the more complex design issues and advice on setting design targets for energy.

The Guide also provides the design team client with energy efficient options and the consequences of their selection.

The Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme has also published The purchaser's guide to energy efficient buildings for industry (GPG 304). This is intended to be used in conjunction with GPG 303 and provides purchasers with a systematic approach to be used with designers and contractors to quickly evolve cost-effective, energy efficient designs.

The Guide will help purchasers in the development of a brief for designers and provides a list of questions for purchasers to put to designers to ensure that all the energy efficiency options have been considered and fully appraised.
