The fate of Rafael Viñoly and Bennetts Associates’ plans for the £150m redevelopment of Oxford university’s Radcliffe Observatory Quarter will be decided by a council of professors at the end of May.

The university has engaged Viñoly to design a £100m maths building, while Bennetts Associates has designed a £50m humanities building and library.

However, the plans for the sensitive site that contains a number of listed buildings have not received final sign-off, and funding will be decided at a crunch meeting of the Oxford University Council on 27 May.

A spokesperson for the university, which has been working up plans for the quarter since 2004, said: “If permission is granted, the next stage of design and procurement will be decided at the end of the month.” will make a decision on the next stage of design and procurement.” and operating conditions are still very difficult.”
