The HVCA is consulting contractors on a proposal to introduce an assessment regime for Association membership with effect from 2002.
The plans will see all existing HVCA member companies assessed by 2004, with annual reassessment thereafter.
The results of an Association survey into the proposals are currently being analysed. Previous research conducted in 1998 and 1999 found a majority of members supported the initiative.
The assessment regime would include site inspection, financial stability, management competence, insurance cover, safety procedures and the qualifications of the workforce.
HVCA Council has approved the outcome of two pilot exercises and authorised the development of technical standards for member activities.
Arrangements are in hand to allow independent accreditation of the assessment regime by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.
