I believe it is a wise move by the ODPM to recognise that the interest of social tenants is best served by providing them with the opportunity to own their homes.
Opinions may vary on this issue and there may have to be some limitations and exceptions to the policy. However, if it is put into practice, the benefit will surely outweigh the cost in the long term. Social tenants, irrespective of their landlords, will be positive in their overall outlook as property investment is a good form of financial security.
I hope the government implements the proposed plan of housing for all. This will be a landmark in the history of Labour housing policy and a joy for all social tenants.
