3-D modelling produced for building services

Building services consultant Cunnington Clark is claiming to be the only UK form to offer 3-D modelling for design work. The firm is using MagiCAD, a software package that allows modelling on ventilation, heating, domestic services and electrical design. The package was developed by European firm Program Oy.

The software allows actual project data, including dimensions and technical data, to highlight the impact that services have on a buidling, for example sound calculations on a ventilation system. MagiCAD includes a product database of over 50 manufacturers.

Cunnington Clark's MD David Clark said: "Creating a technical 3-D model which is based on the geometry and technical properties of the building is the first stage of any project. MagiCAD allows us to concentrate on how each system will integrate through the building structure at the earliest stages of a project. The software will detect clashes, work out space limits and give out a lot of useful design information before the final calculation is made. That means changes can be made while there is still time and before money has been spent. The interface with Navisworks allows us to produce visualisation of the services installation."
