I was disappointed to read Roy Bone’s concerns around the 17th Edition and Elecsa in last month’s issue.
The ECA’s education and training department is currently putting together a programme of courses for the 17th Edition, which will be offered at venues around the country.
There will be three options:
- assessment only, for existing ECS gold cardholders, costing £50;
- a one-day course for those who have passed a BS 7671 course since 2001;
- a three-day course for those who are qualified but who are looking for an in-depth overview of the 17th Edition, or who have not passed a formal BS 7671 qualification since 2001.
Costs for the one- and three-day courses are £125 plus VAT for ECA members and £187 plus VAT for non-members per day.
Turning to Elecsa, I firmly believe that its purchase is of benefit to the ECA and all its members.
Both the decision to work with BRE Certification and the purchase of Elecsa were responses to members’ wishes to provide competition for the other players in the accreditation marketplace.
I also stand by the process of how that purchase came about. The ECA’s rules and regulations were followed to the letter, and all decisions were approved through the appropriate committee and council members.
The ECA’s approach to certification is one of the subjects the president and I are addressing in this autumn’s round of ECA regional conferences.
