Glass Processing Days (GPD), the largest conference in the global glass industry, will be further improved this year thanks to feedback gathered since the 2003 event. GPD 2005 will take place on 17-20 June in Tampere, Finland.

‘GPD 2005 will be arranged from Friday to Monday for the first time’, says Jorma Vitkala, Chairman of the Organising Committee. ‘This new time has been chosen in order to provide the participants an efficient conference without losing too many working days. At the same time the weekend allows visitors to take possibly the family with them and enjoy the Finnish summer culture.’

New topics addressed

The content of GPD 2005 has been formulated to meet the needs of glass processors, industry specialists, designers and architects. The organisers expect to attract more than 900 of these glass processing professionals.

As a reform from the previous GPD, this year’s conference will dedicate a whole day session for glass processing industry case studies, where companies will explain their processes and share their experiences.

The ninth GPD will also place extra focus on coatings and processing coated glass, which will be a theme for a whole session on the Monday.

Traditionally, the opening speakers of GPD have been visionaries of the global glass industry and they have stimulated interesting discussions, which have continued long after the conferences.

This year Arthur Ulens, CEO of Glaverbel, will deliver the opening speech on ‘Shifting markets appealing for innovative glass products’.

GPD will also host a series of workshops and an exhibition of glass products.
