Your article on “The Disappeared” reveals a state of affairs that, although legally correct, seems somewhat inequitable.

Here we see people who have taken a chance to get to the UK, who could possibly make some valid contribution if allowed to work during the time they remain here. In work, they could ease their destitute position, even though bank accounts often require citizenship.

They could also be made pass a more rigorous test of their use to local communities and societies. Accepting that they could fund themselves, we could use a three strike system (or less depending on circumstances). I believe that tying the above proposals into an agreement of sorts would also reduce the numbers of “disappeared”.
