There will have been 20% growth in access control installations during 2001 – and 8% growth in the alarms and security systems market, according to the latest MBD report.
MBD believes that the apparent consumption of alarms and security systems, not taking into account rental income, has increased year-on-year from 1997 to 2001. The strongest growth of 13% was reported for 2000, taking consumption to £485.6 million.

This growth partly reflects the sophisticated equipment being installed, with the price effect partially offset by continued strong price competition in the market.

The access market has also increased year-on-year during the period, with overall growth of 51% between 1997 and 2001, taking sales to £483 million in the final year. The strongest growth (of 13 %) was recorded in 1998, reflecting strong demand for private commercial and public non-residential applications.

The market forecast for the next five years is that alarms will reach £2813 million in 2006 – an increase of 6% compared to 2002.
