Service engineer Mike Preston, who works for Christie Intruder Alarms of Waterlooville, spent two weeks trekking in the shadow of Mount Everest, to raise funds for children’s mobility charity ‘Whizz Kids’.

Preston’s walk involved a 70-mile trek in the rarefied atmosphere of Nepal, up to the base camp of Mount Everest, some 18,000 feet above sea level. He raised over £3,250 in sponsorship, through the support of friends, family, his employers and their clients.

“I consider myself very fit, but the mountainous terrain and lack of oxygen at that height tested me to the full,” Preston, 36, said.
