The latest version of the Wiring Regulations, BS 7671: 2001, which took effect in January this year, have been almost immediately amended
The ECA has expressed its concern over the amendment, and especially the ambiguous terminology used in the document, such as the wording 'long periods' and 'unlikely'. The Association feels that this type of wording puts unreasonable requirements on to contractors in relation to correct interpretation of the document.

Worries that the use of such ambiguous terms will lead to inconsistent interpretations of the standard, which in turn will generate disagreement and conflict, have been expressed to all relevant parties. The ECA has requested that the On-Site Guide indicate what is acceptable when these terms are used.

IEE head of CLA standards and technology Brian Lewis, says: "The IEE has circulated over 50 000 copies of the amendment. Contractors can interpret the document using the On Site Guide, which is available from the wholesalers, W H Smiths or by calling the IEE on 01438 767328."
