James Forrest of Gillingham, Kent took the JTL National Award Winner of 2001 at a recent ceremony held at the House of Lords on 28 June
Forrest, 21, completed his apprenticeship last year with Gratte Brothers in North London. He picked up the top award, the Frank Chapple Cup and £1500 in prize money. This is in addition to his London region winner's prize of £750.
Nine other regional JTL award winners also picked up £750, a plaque and certificate. They are:
- Robert Bates, East Midlands (apprentice with ABB, now working for Field Electrical Contractors, Mansfield);
- Alan O'Garro, Eastern (apprentice with Eastern Contracting, now with Arup);
- Justin Brown, Midlands (R Lewis & Co, Stroud);
- Andrew Malen, North West, Merseyside & North Wales (Dimension Data Advanced Infrastructure, Warrington);
- Michael Murphy, North East & Yorkshire (Haden Young);
- James Taylor, South Eastern (apprentice with Strange Electrical, now self-employed);
- Gareth Fairie, South Wales (High Cross Electrical, Cardiff);
- Michael Evans, South Western (T M Evans, Wells);
- Benjamin Lambourne, Southern (Rhedin Electrical, Reading).
Matthew Evans was awarded the first ever Roy Howard Shield for Health and Safety. He works for J W & E Morris & Sons.
The prizes were presented by Lord Randall of St Budeaux, a former electrical apprentice.
